A New Free Hat Pattern

So - You want to help keep kids warm this winter but mittens aren't your "thing"? Well here's a quick and easy hat that's done in a jiffy! This will fit a range of about 6-10 years old. Bulky Knit Child's Hat




You'll need:


-6 ounces (approx.) worsted weight yarn, used double . Or 6 ounces of bulky weight yarn used single strand.



-Size 10.5 U.S. (6.5 mm) Double pointed needles, or use a suitable circular, switching to dpns when decreasing.



-Stitch marker, tapestry needle for weaving in ends.


With 2 strands of yarn, cast on 60 stitches.

Work 3" of K2, P2 Ribbing.

Switch to Stockinette Stitch, and work 6 more inches, hat should measure 9" total.



Begin Decreases:

1. K4, Knit 2 Together (K2tog) around.
2. Knit
3. K3, K2tog around.
4. Knit
5. K2, K2 tog around.
6. Knit
7. K 1, K 2 tog around.
8. Knit
9. K2tog around. (1o sts remaining)

Cut yarn, leaving a 10" tail. Thread tapestry needle with tail and weave through remaining stitches twice. Pull tail through to inside of hat, cut yarn, weave in end(s). Add Pom-Pom if desired.
